This is our first Mule Deer Hunting Video. Uriah Wurst and I decided to try our luck getting a Mule Deer hunt on film. It was not as easy as we thought it would be at first. The good news is we have a close friend that knows the deer country really well. We spent our first weekend driving around with him and looking at deer.
The first weekend was hot and the deer weren’t moving like we would have liked. We spent a lot of time glassing and covering territory. If we weren’t driving we were walking. With only two weekends to hunt I was getting nervous.
On the last weekend everything started out like the last weekend. We just weren’t seeing the deer moving as much as you would hope. Sunday afternoon was our last day and we were happy to see the overcast skies. The afternoon was cooling off and we were starting to see a few deer.
Uriah found a buck that we were happy to make a move on. Unfortunately it didn’t give us a good opportunity to get it on film. After Uriah got his buck he started to encourage me to stay after it. We had quite a bit of daylight left and we just spotted a group of elk up and feeding. To tell you the truth I was a little tired and had to work the next day.
It was only about twenty minutes after spotting the elk that we noticed a group of does moving out of the timber. There was a bigger bodied deer standing up in the timber that looked like it may have antlers. Once he finally stepped out into an opening I was glad Uriah had encouraged me to keep on hunting.
Watch this video. We used the Benelli R1 in 300 WSM and the Nikon Monarch scope to take our bucks. We may have a good one that promises to score well.

I was definitely smiling more the first time I saw my daughter. I was young and was shocked at the miracle. The deer wasn’t a miracle, but it was really cool!
Great buck Lance. Did you ever get it scored after the drying period?
I called the taxidermist last week, and haven’t heard back. I think he is hunting mountain lions. I will keep you posted.

From what I understand your whitetail are huge. Only the strong survive in your country… Cold and harsh isn’t a place for the week!
